TOCCOA, Ga. – The University of West Florida women's golf team finished the fall schedule this week at the Ralph Hayes Toyota D2 Elite Invitational where the team placed 11th overall in a field that featured many of the nation's top-ranked teams.
UWF finished with a team score of 609 (+33) with a 304 (+16) in the first round and 305 (+17) in the second round.
Due to inclement weather the tournament schedule was affected and eventually just two rounds of the three were completed. The teams played the opening round on Sunday in place of the practice round, had Monday washed out and completed the final round on Tuesday. Teams also competed together as groups of five to help move through the tournament with team scores.
Freshman
Lauren Patterson had a strong opening round with a two under 70 which at the time tied her for the lead of the tournament. Patterson posted five birdies, 10 pars and three bogeys. The freshman shot a 78 in the final round to place tied for 17
th overall.
The final round on Tuesday produced problems for every player with the poor weather and course conditions. Scores jumped up for each team, but the Argos worked hard to keep consistent play and came up just one shot off the first day.
Millie Thompson battled through the elements and shot even par in the final round with birdies on holes No. 3, 8 and 14.
Holland Davidson had the biggest improvement from Sunday to Tuesday. The junior recorded an 87 in the first round and dropped 11 shots to a 76 on Tuesday which was the second-best team score of the day.
The Argos played in four tournaments during the fall season in a five-week period. The team will be back in action again for their spring championship season beginning on Feb. 9 at the World Golf Invitational.
