PENSACOLA, Fla. – West Florida Softball (14-6, 7-2) showed it can win in many ways this weekend, capping off their three-game sweep of Delta State (8-6, 4-4) with a 2-0 defensive showdown.
 
Halie Wetherington celebrated her senior day and was a part of the UWF batting lineup for her 100^th win as an Argo over the weekend. Haley Guffey (8-3) started in the circle again and picked up her third shutout of the season in the defensive effort. UWF allowed just four hits and Guffey added in 3 K's with one walk in the effort.
 
Despite the Argos tallying nine hits on the day, they had eight runners left on base and put up their first runs in the fifth inning. UWF is now on an eight-game win streak to continue leading the GSC.
 
UWF saw key moments from its freshmen heavy lineup in game three. Angelia Discenza went two for two with a double, a run, and a walk to help produce the only offense the Argos saw Saturday. Nicole Mergen also knocked her first triple of the year and scored on a Bella Holliday pinch hit RBI bunt.

Guffey held DSU in check through the first three innings, stranding three total runners. UWF managed to get three of their own on but they were also left on base. In the fourth, UWF loaded the bases on an Emma Brice single and a Jessie Baughan single. Nicole Mergen was walked, but two straight strikeouts ended the inning with bases loaded to keep the game tied at 0-0. 
 
Delta State was able to get two aboard with a single and a UWF error, but the Argos again held them off and closed the half inning with a sac bunt and groundout. 
 
UWF finally managed a run in the fifth with a Discenza single and a Hannah Harper RBI double. In the sixth, Mergen tripled and was scored by a pinch hit bunt by Holliday. 
 
In the bottom of the seventh, Delta had the tying run at the plate after a single to center field but a foul out, a fielder's choice, and a swinging strikeout from Guffey secured the series sweep with a 2-0 win.
