PHOENIX, Ariz. - UWF tennis remains on the upswing in the national rankings across the board in the ITA DII Rankings, the most recent of which were announced earlier today.

The men's side (16-1, 5-1 GSC) is rock steady at No. 1 after another undefeated week, going 3-0 with wins over current No. 27 Lee 7-0, No. 22 North Georgia 5-2 and No. 30 Columbus State 5-2.

With three more singles wins at the top of the lineup, the latter two of which clinched the matches against UNG and CSU, and his first GSC Player of the Week award, Miguel Cabrera has jumped six spots in the ITA DII National Singles Rankings with a 10-2 record overall. He is 4-0 since the loss at No. 4 Valdosta State. Sebastian Rondon is next in line for the Argos at No. 12 with an 11-2 record. Diego Duran has moved up three spots to No. 44 after also going 3-0 on the week with a huge 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 7-6 (11-9) win on court three against the Cougars. He is also 11-2 and undefeated since the Valdosta match. Last up is Sebastian Sotelo at No. 50, also with an undefeated week and a 13-2 singles record.

Rondon and Duran have moved up to No. 3 in the National Doubles Rankings after their doubles win at UNG. Sotelo and Tomas Leston check in at No. 38 with an 11-1 record.

On the other side, the women (9-6, 4-2 GSC) have jumped a whopping 20 spots from No. 30 to No. 10 in the ITA DII National Rankings by dint of a pair of ranked wins, including a massive 4-3 upset of then-No. 7 North Georgia in Dahlonega. They followed with a 5-2 win over No. 31 Columbus State before narrowly falling 3-4 yesterday to DI Jacksonville State.

In the Singles Rankings, Aline Midori Da Silva is up to No. 29. She is 11-3 overall with six straight singles wins, her last five over four ranked DII teams and one DI squad with her last loss coming against current No. 1 Nova Southeastern. Carlota Verdu is back in the field at No. 36 after her singles upset of then-No. 9 Nikoline Gullacksen of CSU.

Verdu and Sandra Recuenco have jumped five spots to No. 5 in the Doubles Rankings coming off a pair of 7-5 wins over No. 22 Gullacksen and Mariana Ramirez of CSU and Ella Tuomela and Polina Ramenskaja of JSU.

The women play this afternoon at 1 pm versus Arkansas Tech. Both squads are back in action this Friday at home against Mississippi College in crucial matchups for the GSC standings. The Choctaws are up to No. 23 nationally and second in the GSC, one spot above UWF, and the Lady Choctaws are up to No. 15 nationally and second in the conference, two spots above the Argos.
