PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – The University of West Florida men's golf team moved up five positions to a tie for second place on Tuesday in the second round of the NCAA Division II National Championship at the PGA National Resort.
Led by a 68 from
Eddie Lee, the Argos as a team shot six under par for the round (282) which was eight strokes better than yesterday. It was the second lowest round of the day behind Missouri S&T who shot eight under and is in first place.
Lee, who shot even par in round one is tied for fourth overall in the individual standings and is just two shots shy of the lead. The junior was even through the first nine holes with birdies on No. 3 and No. 6. The challenging back nine is where Lee took advantage with eagles on the two par 5's. Lee kicked off the back nine with an eagle on the 545-yard No. 10 hole and then closed out the round with an eagle on the 556-yard No. 18. The Fort Walton Beach, Fla. native is tied for the lead for best score on Par 5's throughout the tournament thus far at -7. He also is tied for the lead in total eagles with two.
Joining Lee with under par rounds were
Per Ekelund with a 70 (-2) and
Cooper Tendick at 71 (-1). Ekelund is now even through two rounds and Tendick is one under through day two. Both players were through 10 holes today without a bogey. Ekelund was three under through 10 and Tendick was four under through 10.
TJ Thompson played a consistent round that ended one-over par. Thompson was even through 12 holes and a bogey on No. 13 put him one over. He parred the remaining holes and is now +2 through two rounds.
Fabian Wennerlof finished with a 78 (+6) and is seven over for the tournament.
The Argos will tee off the third and final round of stroke play at 1:11 p.m. ET on Wednesday. The top eight teams will secure a spot in match play en route to the National Championship title.
