Argos Battle Through Slow Start in First Round at NCAA Regionals

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The UWF men's golf team had a slow start to the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional on Thursday, but the Argos battled through the difficult front nine and gained ground after a solid back nine. UWF shot 289 (+1) and is currently in seventh place.

On the front nine, which is par 35, the Argos combined to shoot 144 (+4) but on the back nine, which is par 37, the team totaled 145 (-3). UWF had just four birdies on the front followed by 12 birdies on the back.

TJ Thompson, who leads the Argos at one under had the strongest start. The sophomore posted no bogeys and one birdie in the first nine holes. He finished with three birdies and three bogeys on the back. Thompson is tied for 18th individually in the challenging South/Southeast region competition.

Fabian Wennerlof was three over on the front and three under on the back to shoot even par on the day.

Eddie Lee and Cooper Tendick both sit at one over par following the first round. Lee had a hot start with birdies on holes No. 2, 3, and 5. Tendick was two over on the front and one under on the back.
Per Ekelund finished at seven over.

The Argos will look to continue its climb up the leaderboard on Friday in the second round. The team will begin teeing off at 7:30 a.m. ET at the Mission Inn Resort – El Campeon.
