LIVINGSTON, Ala. — West Florida knocked two homers to push a 7-4 victory against the University of West Alabama on Friday night.
The Argos were first on the board when
Peyton Martin reached on a fielder's choice and later scored on a single by
Greg Pettay, in the second inning. The score was tied at 1-1 after West Alabama capitalized on a wild pitch and an error in the third inning.
In the fifth inning, West Alabama went ahead 2-1 with a homer. However, the Argonauts responded in the sixth inning when
Peyton Martin hit a three-run homer, scoring
Tyler Brobst and
Trent Kelly to reclaim the lead at 4-2.
West Florida extended its advantage in the seventh inning with a two-run homer by
William Lybrook, which also brought
Zack Stokes home, making it 6-2. West Alabama attempted a comeback in their half of the inning, scoring twice, but West Florida maintained a 6-4 lead.
In the ninth inning,
Hudson Spencer walked and later scored on a single by
Trent Kelly, which was aided by a fielding error, cementing West Florida's 7-4 win.
Colton Dorsey pitched 6 innings, allowing 5 hits and 2 earned runs, while striking out 8 batters and walking 1.
Micky Scheetz closed the game with 2 innings pitched, conceding 2 hits and securing 3 strikeouts, earning his 10th save of the season.
The Argos continue the series against West Alabama on Saturday, April 11. The game is set for 1 p.m. at Livingston, Alabama.
