Baseball drops series to West Alabama

LIVINGSTON, Ala. — The University of West Florida faced a tough doubleheader against the University of West Alabama on Saturday, falling in both games with final scores of 4–3 and 4–2.

Game 1
In the first game, West Florida narrowly fell to West Alabama, with a late rally in the ninth inning coming up short. The Argonauts faced a tough challenge as West Alabama capitalized on three home runs to secure the victory. West Florida responded in the seventh when Peyton Martin scored on a catcher's error, cutting the deficit to 3–1. West Alabama added an insurance run in the eighth with another solo home run, making it 4–1.

In a dramatic ninth inning, Tyler Brobst walked, and Zack DeJesus, the pinch runner, scored on a two-run homer by Peyton Martin, narrowing the gap to 4–3. Despite their efforts, the Argonauts could not complete the comeback.

Tucker Ricks pitched 7 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits while striking out 4. Eli Lamb relieved him, conceding 1 run on 3 hits in 1 inning.

Game 2
Zack Stokes highlighted the game with a home run in the third inning after West Alabama initially took the lead. Ethan Babcock walked and scored on Stokes's double, cutting the deficit to 2-1 after three innings. Trent Kelly tied the game in the fourth with a solo home run, but West Alabama regained the lead in the fifth with two runs from a hit by pitch and consecutive hits, making it 4-2.

Despite efforts from West Florida, including a walk by Kelly in the sixth, no further scoring occurred, and the game concluded with a 4-2 victory for West Alabama.

Elijah Roberts opened the game for West Florida, pitching 4 innings with 3 earned runs on 3 hits while striking out 4. Blake Thomas followed, giving up 1 earned run on 2 hits in just 1/3 inning. Micky Scheetz closed the pitching effort with 1.2 innings, delivering 7 strikes out of 9 pitches.
