Stokes Named NCBWA Player of the Year; Three Argos Earn All-Region Honors

PENSACOLA, Fla.Zack Stokes was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division II All-South Region Player of the Year, the association announced on Friday. Stokes was also named to the All-South Region First Team, as well as relief pitcher Micky Scheetz, while William Lybrook picked up Second-Team honors.

Stokes extends his already decorated resume after putting together one of the top offensive seasons in the region, starting all 53 games for the Argonauts while batting .439 with 83 hits, 68 runs, 21 doubles, 14 home runs and 43 RBI's. He's posted a .772 slugging percentage and a .556 on-base percentage while drawing 50 walks and striking out just 19 times. Stokes adds 10 stolen bases and a .993 fielding percentage in the outfield.

Scheetz has anchored the West Florida bullpen all season, appearing in 28 games thus far and recording a 1.05 ERA to go along with a 3-1 record and 14 saves. Across 42.2 innings, he's allowed just five earned runs while striking out 42 batters and walking only eight. Opponents have hit .261 against Scheetz, who has yet to allow a home run the 2026 campaign.

Lybrook earns second-team honors after starting all 53 games behind the plate and batting .373 with 62 hits, 35 runs, 10 doubles, two triples, five home runs and 34 runs batted in. He finished with a .548 slugging percentage and .500 on-base percentage while drawing 27 walks and being hit by 16 pitches. Defensively, Lybrook has recorded 253 putouts, 30 assists and a .986 fielding percentage.

The trio has led West Florida to a 40-13 overall record, including a 21-12 mark in Gulf South Conference play. As a team, the Argonauts hit .309 with 517 hits, 89 doubles, 33 home runs and 326 RBI, while the pitching staff posted a 3.88 ERA with 373 strikeouts.

The Argonauts are currently hosting the 2026 NCAA South Regional Tournament, where they enter the winner's bracket after defeating Edward Waters yesterday. The Argos scored 16 runs on 18 hits to defeat the Tigers 16-6. They will face the Lee Flames in game two today at 5 p.m. The winner will advance to the NCAA Division II South Region Championship game. Live stats and broadcast will be available on GoArgos.com.
