Micky Scheetz and
Zack Stokes were awarded All-American honors by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America, announced Wednesday afternoon.
Scheetz earned first team honors as a relief pitcher and Stokes was named to second team, as both earn All-American status for the first time.
The left-hander has appeared in 30 games, posting a 3-1 record with a 1.17 ERA and 16 saves across 46.0 innings pitched. He has helped the Argos close out the GSC Championship with a victory and helped pave the way through the NCAA postseason. Scheetz recently broke the program record for saves in a single season and leads all of Division II.
Stokes adds this to his growing list of accolades on the season. He is currenty leading the Argonauts with a .449 batting average. The GSC and NCBWA South Region Player of the Year has started all 57 games for UWF. Stokes is in the top 10 of Division II in batting average, doubles, hits, walks and on-base percentage.
UWF hosts the NCAA Division II South Super Regional on Thursday, May 21 and Friday, May 22. The Argonauts face Tampa in a best-of-three series with a trip to the NCAA Division II National Championship on the line. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. for both games, with a potential deciding game scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, if necessary.
