After completing a successful 15-3-3 season, three Argonauts were named among the elite in the NCAA Division II South Region. On Wednesday, senior
Lindsay Nemanich (Houston, Texas/Langham Creek HS) and sophomore
Marcela Franco (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Visconde de Porto Seguro) were named to the DAKTRONICS All-South Region Women's Soccer First Team. Senior
Patricia Toledo (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Cloud County CC) earned second team honors.
Nemanich and Franco were two of the 11 first team selections. Members of the all-region first team will advance to the national ballot and be eligible for the 2006 DAKTRONICS Women's Soccer All-America Team.
Nemanich completed her Argonaut career by earning Gulf South Conference Co-Player of the Year honors this season. She also earned her second consecutive selection to the All-GSC Team. Nemanich was one of five Argonauts named to the GSC All-Tournament Team last month as she helped lead West Florida to their fourth conference title. Nemanich started all 21 matches and played a team-high 1,869 minutes. She led a defense that set a school record by only allowing 10 goals this season. West Florida's defense also posted 14 shutouts. Nemanich also scored all three of her goals on penalty kicks, including a game-winning goal in double overtime in West Florida's 2-1 win at Montevallo.
Franco led the Argonauts this season with 24 points on 10 goals and four assists. After earning her first All-GSC selection, Franco became the fourth Argonaut to be named the GSC Tournament Most Outstanding Player. Franco started all 21 matches and played in 1,495 minutes this season. She recorded at least one point in 13 of the Argonauts 21 matches this season, including a four point, two goal effort in the win over Delta State. Franco led the Argonauts with four game-winning goals, including the lone goal in West Florida's 1-0 regular season win over Ouachita Baptist.
Toledo ended her West Florida career as one of the top scorers of all-time. She finished her career fifth all-time with 93 points and tied for second with 42 career goals and 25 assists. Toledo was second on the Argonauts this season with 21 points on seven goals and seven assists. An All-GSC and GSC All-Tournament honoree, Toledo started 20 of 21 matches. She recorded at least one point in 12 matches, including a pair of assists in the GSC Tournament. Toledo also netted the game-winning penalty shot in West Florida's region semifinal win over Saint Leo
