PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 1-ranked University of West Florida men's tennis team defeated No. 23 West Alabama 8-1 at home on Tuesday afternoon at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex. West Florida (13-1, 5-0 GSC) improves to 7-0 in matches against south region opponents this season.
Junior
Kenny Brasil (Apucarana, Brazil) and sophomore
Alex Peyrot (Castelnaudary, France) won their 13
th straight match at number one doubles 8-6 while junior
Pablo Borrero (Pereira, Colombia) and sophomore
Pablo Tellez (Bogota, Columbia/Colegio) won their 10
th straight match at number two doubles 8-4.
Senior
Elio Latella (Sydney, Australia) and junior
Valentim Goncalves (Curitiba, Brazil) won at number three doubles 8-6.
No. 8 Peyrot won at number one singles 6-3, 6-2 while Latella won his 60
th career match at number two singles 6-2, 6-1.
Sophomore
Douglas Boe (Vinhedo, Brazil) won 7-5, 6-3 at number three singles while redshirt freshman
Sebastian Sanchez (Bogota, Colombia) won 4-6, 6-2, 10-4 at number four singles.
Tellez fell at number five singles 3-6, 3-6 while junior
Juan Pablo Boada (La Paz, Bolivia) earned his first career victory at UWF with a 6-2, 6-1 win at number six singles.
West Florida will next face Alabama Huntsville on Thursday, March 26 at 1 p.m. CT before facing No. 18 BYU-Hawaii on Friday, March 27 at 12:30 p.m. CT. UWF will then face No. 32 Florida Southern on Saturday, March 28 at 9 a.m. CT. West Florida will wrap up the weekend by facing No. 40 Delta State on Sunday, March 29 at 9 a.m. CT before facing Christian Brothers later that day at 1 p.m. CT.
