Fernanda Amaral earns Capital One Academic All-America® honors

Amaral named to Capital One Academic All-America® team for second straight year

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – University of West Florida women's tennis senior Fernanda Amaral (Curitiba, Brazil/Positivo HS) has been named to the 2015 Capital One Academic All-America® At-Large Team for the second consecutive year. Amaral is one of 45 Division II student-athletes across the country in the At-Large category to be honored for their academic and athletic achievement during the 2014-15 academic year.
 
The Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Women's At-Large program includes the sports of bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis and water polo.
 
Amaral is a business management major with a 3.96 grade point average. The senior recorded a 17-5 record at number five singles this season and had a 22-3 overall record at number two doubles. Amaral helped lead the UWF women's tennis team to a fifth consecutive Gulf South Conference championship and an NCAA Division II South Regional Championship appearance this spring.
 
The senior also earned Capital One Academic All-District® honors for the third consecutive season this spring. Amaral earned her third consecutive GSC All-Academic honors this spring as well after being named to the GSC Honor Roll for the fourth consecutive year.
 
UWF has had six previous student-athletes earn Capital One Academic All-America® honors: Fernanda Amaral (women's tennis, 2014), Gary Buffington (men's golf, 2014), Jens Gerlach (tennis, 1997), Blake Baskin (softball, 2000), Sandy Morgan (softball, 2000) and Courtney Jones (women's soccer, 2009).
