PENSACOLA, Fla. – For the 14th time since 2000, the University of West Florida women's soccer team will head to the NCAA Tournament. This time, they'll be facing Nova Southeastern – for the second consecutive year – in the First Round, located in Dade City, Florida.

The game against NSU will be played at 2 p.m. ET on Friday at University Soccer Field on the campus of regional host Saint Leo University. The game will feature live stats and a live video broadcast, links for which can be found at GoArgos.com.

In the NCAA Tournament
  • West Florida has reached the NCAA Tournament a total of 14 times, and 13 times in Joe Bartlinski's 16 years at the helm.
  • UWF leads all GSC teams in tournament appearances (14) and wins (19).
  • The Argonauts matched up with Nova Southeastern in last year's First Round game at Barry, resulting in a 1-0 win for UWF. Daryl Bell scored the game's lone goal, and the UWF defense held NSU to just one shot in the second half.
  • UWF has a 3-1-1 record at University Soccer Field in Dade City, and Friday will mark the first time that the Argonauts have played a team other than Saint Leo at the Lions' home field.

In the Regional Rankings
  • Despite having top 10 national marks in scoring offense, assists, goals, points, shutout percentage, allowing just one goal in the month of October, allowing just one goal in conference play all year and claiming the Gulf South Conference Chamionship, UWF was ranked sixth in the final NCAA South Region rankings on Monday.

Wow, This Defense
  • West Florida ranks sixth in the country in shutout percentage, recording clean sheets in 15 of the team's 20 games (75 percent). Only No. 3 Central Missouri, No. 2 Grand Valley State and No. 15 Minnesota State-Mankato have more shutouts.
  • Against the top 15 goal-scorers in the Gulf South Conference in the regular season, UWF allowed just six shots, one shot on goal and no goals. Notably, UWF held GSC Co-Player of the Year Summer Lanter without a shot, and did the same against TeMia Pride, who ranked second in the league with 13 goals. Pride was also held shotless on Friday in the semifinal match.
  • The Argos' .55 goals against average is second-best in the conference, but may be a bit misleading. Lee, which leads the Gulf South Conference with a .44 GAA, has a still-impressive 11 shutouts on the year, but West Florida has played four more games of shutout soccer.
  • UWF allowed just one goal in conference play, which has been done just five times in GSC history.
  • UWF's scoreless minutes streak reached 723 before coming to an end against Mississippi College. The streak was the sixth-longest in conference history.
  • West Florida holds seven of the 11 longest shutout streaks in the history of the conference.
  • Current UWF goalkeeper Katelyn Burkhart ranks fifth in DII in GAA at .32, which would rank third in GSC history. Her career GAA of 0.47 would rank second in GSC history.

We Are Good
  • West Florida leads the GSC in points per game (8.10), scoring offense (2.85 goals per game), total goals (58) and total points (162). UWF ranks 10th or better nationally in each of those categories.
  • Freshman Marjorie Boilesen has made an immediate impact in the league, holding the conference lead in assists per game, points per game, total assists and total points.
  • Argonauts make up several top-15 spots in individual statistical rankings in Division II. Boilesen stands second in DII in total assists (14) and assists per game, 12th in total points (38), and 14th in points per game (2.00), Sara Helgadottir is also second in the country in assists (14) and third in assists per game (0.70), and Katelyn Burkhart ranks fifth in goals against average (.32).
  • The Argonauts' win on Sunday against Mississippi College marked the team's 15th shutout this year, which ranks as the second-most in GSC history.

About Nova Southeastern
  • West Florida is 4-1 all-time against NSU, with last year's 1-0 win in the NCAA Tournament being the only postseason matchup between the two teams.
  • NSU has completely revamped its roster from last season. Only three players remain from the Sharks' 2015 squad: goalkeeper Jordan Lentz, midfielder Bailey Corbin, and Sydney Franko, who was injured all of last year. Every other player on the 2015 team either graduated or was not retained once the season ended.
  • Nova Southeastern brought in 29 newcomers this season. Twenty-nine.
  • Hannah Christophe leads the team with 10 goals and 21 points, while five other Sharks have at least three goals. Nova Southeastern leads the Sunshine State Conference in goals against average, at 0.74.

Let's Get Presidential
  • UWF president Judy Bense is retiring at the end of 2016, meaning the university will choose a new president for the first time since 2008.
  • In 2008, UWF 24-1-1, won a Gulf South Conference Championship, and finished as national runners-up and set an NCAA DII record with 20 shutouts in a season.
  • In the two years after Bense was elected, 2009 and 2010, UWF led DII in scoring offense (5.04 goals per game and 4.24 goals per game).
  • The last three US presidential elections have correlated with some interesting results for West Florida women's soccer. The 2004 season was canceled after Hurricane Ivan hit Pensacola, the 2008 team set a national record for shutouts in a season and made the national final, and the 2012 team won the national championship.

November 11 in History
  • November 11 is more or less filled with war history, which will not be discussed in these notes. What will be discussed are the events that are generally viewed positively, like the admittance of Washington as a state (1889) and the launching of Gemini 12 (1966).
  • A fair amount of celebrities have birthdays on November 11, including two of history's greatest writers. Outside of those writers, Leonardo DiCaprio (1974), Demi Moore (1962), television host Marc Summers (1951) and golfer Fuzzy Zoeller (1951) were each born on November 11.
  • Those two writers in question are Russian author Fyodor Dostoyevsky (Crime and Punishment, 1866; The Brothers Karamazov, 1880) and American Kurt Vonnegut (Slaughterhouse-Five, 1969; Cat's Cradle, 1963).
