HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Despite No. 9-ranked Alabama Huntsville scoring six runs in the first two innings, which included a first-inning grand slam, the University of West Florida baseball team strung together one of the most impressive offensive innings in program history to grab a 13-6 comeback victory against the Chargers.

As the Argos take the series, UWF stands at 14-8 on the season with an 8-4 Gulf South Conference mark, while UAH is 17-7 on the year with a 9-3 GSC record.

Alabama Huntsville, the conference's top offense with a .347 team batting average, was quick to get the bats going as Wright Hackett hit a grand slam to put UAH up 4-0 in the first inning. The Chargers would tack on another couple of runs in the bottom of the second to extend its lead to 6-0.

However, that would be all the scoring the UAH lineup would muster. UWF was able to get on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth, as John Price legged out an infield single to score Nic Strasser and make it a 6-1 ballgame.

The very next inning, UWF would go off for 10 runs, with six coming with two outs, to give the Argonauts an 11-6 lead. Strasser got the seventh inning dominance started, hitting a sacrifice fly to score Kyle Hamner. Alex Greene would follow up with an RBI single, scoring Ladeavon Matthews, while Jean Figueroa made it a 6-4 ballgame after a fielder's choice scored Robert Lopez.

Jimmy Redovian came through in the clutch as UWF was down by two. The senior faced a two-strike count with two down and the bases loaded and came through with a 2-RBI single to right field to knot the score at 6-6. Matthews would drive in the would-be game-winning runs, as the junior doubled to right field on an 0-2 count to score Redovian and Justin Ambrosino and create an 8-6 Argonaut lead.

UWF would have another bases loaded situation later on in the seventh and added some insurance with Greene getting hit by a pitch and Jean Figueroa walking to give UWF an 11-6 lead after the monstrous seventh inning.

The last time the Argonauts scored 10 runs in an inning dates back to March 7, 2013, as the 2013 Argonauts complied 11 runs in the first inning against Miles. The last time West Florida scored 10 runs in an inning in conference play was March 25, 2012, when UWF scored 11 runs against Christian Brothers in the second inning.

West Florida would add another pair of runs in the ninth, as Strasser and Figueroa would tally RBIs before game's end.

JT Granat earned his third win of the season, as he was able to settle in nicely after surrendering six runs in the game's first two innings. After the second inning, Granat allowed just two hits without surrendering a run over four innings. Sean Kennedy pitched two innings of relief, allowing just three hits, while Steve McClellan pitched the ninth inning and allowed one base runner.

Every player in the UWF starting lineup recorded at least one hit while scoring at least one run. Six Argonauts compiled multi-hit game and five different players had a multi-RBI performance.

Matthews led the offense, going 3-for-4 and recording the game-winning RBI while scoring two runs. Hamner extended his hitting streak to nine-games in a 1-for-3 showing with two walks and Figueroa led the team with 3 RBI in a 1-for-5 effort.

UWF baseball now looks towards a two-game midweek series against Embry Riddle as the Argonauts return to Pensacola for some spring break baseball. West Florida will square off with West Georgia next weekend at home for a three-game GSC series.
