PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida baseball team looks to stay perfect in midweek games on Wednesday as the team takes its 3-0 midweek record against Spring Hill at 6:00 p.m. at Jim Spooner Field. UWF enters the game having won eight of its last 10 games and previously beat Spring Hill on Feb. 24 2016 by a score of 3-2.
 
BROWN NAMED GSC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK: After two dominating performances last week, LHP Troy Brown garnered UWF's second GSC Freshman of the Week honor in 2016... Brown threw three shutout innings against Stillman in his second start of the season, before throwing another 3.1 innings of shutout baseball against North Alabama on Sunday in a relief appearance... Over the week, Brown combined for 6.1 innings pitched with 11 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA while surrendering just one walk and two hits.
 
ARGOS RECEIVE VOTES IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL POLL: After being ranked No. 39 in Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's preseason rankings, the Argonauts found themselves receiving votes in the poll and stand No. 32 nationally... UWF's highest CBN ranking in 2015 was No. 25.
 
ARGOS SWEEP UNA IN SATURDAY DOUBLE HEADER: North Alabama, who ranked seventh in the South Region according to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Assocation, had some fits against UWF last Saturday as UWF would beat UNA in both games by scores of 9-2 and 4-3... Walker O'Connor earned his fourth win of the season in game one, allowing two earned runs over 6.2 innings pitched... O'Connors consecutive innings streak of not allowing an earned run was snapped at 27 innings in game one... Brandon Nagem earned the win in game two, after his best performance of the 2016 season with a 3.2 innings of shutout relief with seven strikeouts and one hit... Nic Strasser led the offense on the day, going 3-for-7 with 2 HR, a double and 4 RBI... Justin Ambrosino went 4-for-9 in the twinbill.. Jean Figueroa went 3-for-9 on the day while Jimmy Redovian hit his second home run of the season in game one.
 
HOME COOKIN': With a 5-3 record at home this season, UWF has had many individual standouts during home games at Jim Spooner Field, led by Nic Strasser and Michael Savas who each have a .333 average at home... Robert Lopez leads the team with two home runs at Jim Spooner Field... Walker O'Connor over two starts at The Spoon has not surrendered an earned run over 15 innings pitched and has a perfect 2-0 record... UWF relievers Josh McLaney, Steven McClellan, Gray Dorsey and Sean Kennedy have combined for a 0.00 ERA at home over 11.2 innings pitched.
 
SETTING THE TABLE: UWF second basemen Nic Strasser has hit leadoff for the Argonauts in 13 of 18 games this season, and UWF is 10-3 in those contests... Despite hitting in the leadoff spot, Strasser has been UWF's main RBI threat, as he leads the team with four home runs and 19 RBI... Strasser's four stolen bases is second on the team... Strasser's 19 RBI is the ninth most in the conference and ranks in the country's top 70.
 
USING THE LONG BALL: After 15 home runs in all 48 games in 2015, UWF needed just 17 games to pass that mark in 2016... UWF's 2015 team had only two players with more than one home run, being Chase Kiefer and Ledarious Clark, however UWF's 2016 roster currently features five different players with at least two home runs this season... Ladeavon Matthews and Nic Strasser lead the team with four home runs each.
 
TOUGHEST IN THE NATION: With 55 at bats and no strikeouts, Kyle Hamner ranks as the toughest player to strikeout amongst all players in NCAA Division I, II and III... Hamner has not struck out in his last 58 at bats.
 
GOING GREENE: Alex Greene has hit safely in all 14 games he has played in this year, giving him the longest hitting streak since Greg Pron posted a 16-game hitting streak in 2011... Greene's previous career-long hitting streak was five games... Greene is the sixth UWF player since the start of the 2012 season to record a hitting streak of at least 10 games.
 
GSC'S BEST: UWF's 2.49 team ERA marks as the best in the conference, and although early in the season, if the Argonauts were to maintain their current pace, it would be the third best team ERA in Gulf South Conference history... Delta State's 1974 team currently owns the GSC record, having a team ERA of 2.20... West Florida's 2014 team posted the third best ERA in GSC history, as the pitching staff posted a 2.50 ERA.
 
NATIONAL RANKINGS: UWF's 16 home runs this season is the 34th most in NCAA Division II... UWF's 2.49 ERA team ERA is the 11th best in NCAA Division II...  UWF's four shutouts is the second most in DII... UWF has the 12th best strikeout-to-walk ratio, at 3.95... UWF's 2.37 BB/9 is the 11th best... West Florida's 1.22 WHIP is the 27th best in the nation... Walker O'Connor's four wins is tied for 3rd most in the country... Steven McClellan's three saves is tied for 16th most in the country.
 
SOUTH REGION RANKINGS: West Florida's 2.25 ERA is the best in the South Region... UWF's 8.18 hits allowed per game is eighth best in the region... West Florida's 3.88 strikeout-to-walk ratio is the best in the region... UWF's four shutouts is tied for most in the region, as Union and Nova Southeastern also have four... UWF's 1.17 WHIP is second best in the South Region... West Florida's 2.33 BB/9 is the best in the region.
 
SCOUTING SPRING HILL: SHC is coming off a three-game sweep against SIAC foe Lane College, winning by scores of 10-1, 22-2 and 14-1... Spring Hill is 3-2 since losing to UWF on Feb. 24... Pensacola native Alex Jones leads the Badgers with six home runs and 23 RBI... William Floros leads the team with a .429 average... As a team, the Badgers are hitting .307 and have a 4.98 ERA.
 
SERIES HISTORY VS. SPRING HILL: A long-time opponent of UWF baseball, the Argonauts have had sustained success against the Badgers, winning 45 of 59 (45-14) matchups... The Argonauts took three of four matchups in 2015... UWF currently has a seven-game winning streak when playing Spring Hill at home, with UWF's last home loss against the Badgers coming all the way back on April 24, 2007.
 
LAST TIME OUT: The contest with the Badgers will be UWF's second midweek contest against their foes from Mobile... UWF grabbed a come-from-behind win against Spring Hill on Feb. 24, as UWF would score two runs in the eighth to steal a 3-2 victory... Brandon Nagem started for UWF, throwing five innings and allowing only one earned run on four hits... Steven McClellan recorded his second save of the season in the effort... Colby Brown, Michael Savas and Jimmy Redovian each recorded one RBI... UWF was limited to a 2016 season-low four hits for the contest.
