MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. –
Led by two strong comebacks from Elin Olsson and Paloma Vaccaro, the UWF women's golf team shot the low round of the Gulf South Conference Championship to move into second place after 36 holes on The Schoolmaster Course on Monday.

The eighth-ranked UWF squad recorded a 6-over-par 294 and shaved five shots off a 13-stroke deficit following Sunday's opening round. Lee is pacing the field with a pair of 299s for a 598 total, just ahead of UWF's 606. West Alabama is in third at 615 and Shorter is in fourth at 619.

"I was impressed with the way they came back and fought today more than anything," UWF head coach Bryan Clarke said. "We just tried to make up some ground today and see what happens tomorrow. After cutting it the deficit to eight today, we'll try to do some more tomorrow and see what happens."

A day after each shooting a round in the 80s, both players returned to their customary form as Olsson posted the low round of the tournament with a 71 and Vaccaro was level on the day at 72. Vaccaro is tied for ninth overall at 153 and Olsson is tied for 16th at 157.

"I figured they'd (Elin and Paloma) come back strong today," Clarke said. "They talked between themselves yesterday and had a game plan for bringing it like they are capable of."

Johanna Nevalainen continued her late season success with a 75, placing her in seventh place at 151, five shots out of the lead.

Daisy-May Kenny moved three spots up the leaderboard into the top 10 with a 77-76—153. Lauren Lamm made it five-for-five UWF players lowering their scores from day one, posting a 77 for a 155 total. She is tied for 12th overall. She had a birdie on the par-4 eighth and an eagle on the par-4 17th when she holed out from 112 yards.

UWF will be paired with Lee and West Alabama in Tuesday's final round. The first tee time for that grouping will start at 9:39 a.m.
