AURORA, Colo. – UWF's
Paloma Vaccaro posted a three-shot improvement on Friday from her second-round 81 on Thursday at the NCAA Championship. The sophomore from Asuncion, Paraguay, now stands at 16-over after shooting a 78 in the third round of play at Aurora's CommonGround Golf Course.
For the second consecutive day, Vaccaro holed 10 pars and a birdie. Starting the day on No. 10, she opened strong and just 2-over on her first nine, just as she did on Thursday. The sophomore quickly righted the ship after a bogey on No. 12, her third hole of the day, and went just 2-over across her next 12 holes.
The final stretch for Vaccaro was a little tougher, as she bogeyed four of her last six holes. However, Vaccaro ended the day on a good note, going even par on her final three holes, which included a birdie on No. 7. The course perhaps played its toughest on Friday, as just 11 of the 72 players in the field were able to break par.
"Paloma had a tough day, and this course can make you look pretty bad, pretty quickly," UWF women's golf head coach
Bryan Clarke said of Vaccaro's third round. "Really, it was just a rough day all around, unfortunately. But there's still tomorrow, so she can come out strong and finish the year on a high note, which is what we're hoping for."
Vaccaro will tee off from the 10th hole at 9 a.m. Mountain Time on Saturday for the final round of the tournament, and she sits in 60th in the field.
