Box Score INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- After an intense matchup against the No. 4 seed Hawaii Hilo, West Florida defeats the Vulcans 4-1 to advance to the semifinals of the ITA Indoor Championships on Saturday. The No. 5 seed Argonauts will face the No. 1 seed Barry University at 11:00 AM (ET) for what will be a great match in Division II Men's Tennis.
West Florida started the morning off strong with the first point of the day in doubles. The Argonauts won two out of the three doubles matches.
Salvador Bandeira and
Albin Ekenros picked up a 6-0 sweep as the No. 2 position.
Pedro Cordeiro and
Bernardo Costa won 6-2 as the No. 3 position.
In singles, the Argonauts took the first set in four of the six singles matches. As the No. 1 position,
Facundo Bermejo dominated the court by winning the tiebreaker 6-4, 2-6, 2-0.
Albin Ekenros had great points back and forth as the No. 5 position winning 6-3, 6-3. His teammate Juan Cabrero came in as the No. 3 position and swept the match 6-3, 6-3.
"We played great in doubles, our guys made little errors and we played flawless. Hawaii Hilo is a great team; all the singles matches were very close. The scores look easier than it was," said UWF head coach
Derrick Racine.
