MOBILE, Ala. – The UWF women's golf team is in second place after two rounds of the Gulf South Conference Championships. The Argonauts shot 307 in the opening 18 and 302 in the afternoon for a 609 total on the par-72, RTJ Golf Trail at Magnolia Grove Falls Course.
Freshman
Alegria Lopez is the individual leader at 3-over-par. She completed her first postseason rounds at 74-73 for a 147 total, two shots ahead of Abigail Cheney of Shorter. Lopez finished with five birdies and was the only player in the 45-player field to birdie No. 18 in both rounds. She played the four par 5s at 2-under-par.
The GSC individual medalist has come from UWF eight times in the league's 16 seasons.
Junior
Solange Gomez is in eighth place at 77-75=152. She is looking to record her third-consecutive top five finish at the conference tourney.
Junior
Ronja Taipale is also in the top 20, posting a 81-76=157, good for a tie for 18th. Her best finish in two previous GSC's is a tie for 13th in 2019.
Freshman
Alia Scotka shot a 75 in the morning before an 83 put her in a tie for 22nd at 158. Sophomore
Payton Pacheco shaved five strokes off her morning 83 with a 78 and is in 28th position.
Lee was in third after the first round and shot a 4-over-par 292 to jump into first place at 600. West Georgia counted rounds of 304 and 306 and is in third at 612.
UWF, Lee and UWG will be paired together for the second-consecutive day on Saturday when they tee off No. 1 beginning at 9:00 a.m.
