DAVIE, Fla. – The No. 44 UWF women's golf team posted a 305 in the first round of the NCAA Women's Golf South Regional at Grande Oaks Golf Club on Monday.

UWF is in ninth place following the 21-over-par effort. No. 2 Lynn leads the field at 295, 10 strokes ahead of the Argonauts. No. 5 Anderson and No. 16 Saint Leo are tied for second place at 296. No. 4 Nova Southeastern and No. 15 Tampa are knotted at 300 in fourth. The top five teams after Wednesday's third round will advance to the NCAA Championships.

UWF made the turn at 12-over-par and was tied for seventh before playing the front nine at 9-over-par to move into their current position.

"I feel pretty good with our opening round," UWF head coach Kristen Dorsey said. "We left some strokes out there but its not anything that is detrimental to us. We looked at the players' rounds and tried to see where we can shave off a shot or two (Tuesday). I thought we managed the course well."

On Monday, UWF was led by junior Solange Gomez with a 3-over-par 74. She is tied for 11th place after opening her round with a birdie on the par-4 tenth, before making 13 par and four bogeys the rest of the way. She is three shots behind a trio of players who shot even par.

Freshman Alegria Lopez shot a 76 in her first-ever NCAA postseason round. Sophomore Payton Pacheco was a shot back at 77. After starting her day with four bogeys in the first five holes, she played the final 13 holes at 3-over-par.

Junior Ronja Taipale signed for a 78 as she concluded her day with birdies on Nos. 8 and 9 – her final two holes. She made a 40-foot putt from off the green on eight and then chipped in over a bunker with very little green to work with on nine.

Freshman Alia Scotka shot an 82.

UWF will begin play at 9:06 a.m. Eastern Time off No. 10 on Tuesday. The Argos will be paired with Lee and Barry, who are tied for seventh at 304.
