UWF Adds Xavier Washington To MBB Signing Class

6-foot-7 Florida native brings inside and outside scoring to the Argonauts

PENSACOLA, Fla. – UWF head men's basketball coach Jeff Burkhamer announced that Xavier Washington, a 6-foot-7, 205-pound forward from Palmetto, Florida has signed a National Letter of Intent to play at UWF beginning this fall.

Washington played the 2022-2023 season at Cowley Community College in Arkansas City, Kansas. Washington averaged 9.5 points and 4.8 rebounds per game, shot 50 percent from the field, 34 percent from outside and 74 percent from the free throw line. He had a season high of 20 points against Northern Oklahoma Tonkawa and a season high 11 rebounds against Butler CC. He scored in double figures 13 times last season and had eight or more rebounds in a game on eight occasions.

"Xavier is a versatile player and when you consider the talent that he plays against on a daily basis in the NJCAA Region VI you know that he will come to UWF fully prepared to compete for a Gulf South Conference championship," Burkhamer said. "He is a competitor and a warrior. He can run the floor, score in the post and on the perimeter, and is a good rebounder."

As a freshman, he averaged 6.0 points and 3.7 boards per game for the Tigers.

"Xavier gives us great flexibility since he can step out and play on the perimeter or give us a post-up presence," Burkhamer added. "We are thrilled that he chose the University of West Florida to continue his basketball career. It is a perfect fit for him and for us."

He played his prep ball at Palmetto High School south of St. Petersburg, Florida.

Washington will pursue a degree in Business at UWF.
