PENSACOLA, Fla. – It was a dominant morning for the UWF Women's Cross Country team, as the squad took the first four individual places on their way to a team victory at the Argonaut Invitational 5K.
Â
This marks the first time since September 24, 2021, coincidentally at the Argonaut Invitational, that the Argos placed first in a meet as a team.  The University of Mobile and Newberry finished second and third in the team portion.
Â
"We really pushed strong at the beginning of the race and that set the tone for us, with our first through four runners", Head Coach
Caleb Carmichael stated.  "I am really proud of the way our number six and seven runners stepped up today, especially Ambrea (Hobbs)."
Â
Chloe Rook, a sophomore from Panama City Beach, Florida, was the top runner in the field on Friday, running a mark of 19:19.2.  She became the only runner to finish the meet in under 20 minutes.
Â
"Chloe is a stud", stated Carmichael.  "She's shown up and knows now that she can be the type of runner that she wants to be.  "She commanded the race well and opened up a huge lead for herself."
Â
Not far behind was
Ava Baldauf with a time of 20:15.6. Â
Julia Alvarez Drago and
Skylar Grant tied for third place with identical times of 20:56.3.
Â
For a third straight meet, UWF got support from across the line-up as ran a 22:32.1, while
Tatum Salter and
Kristen Bouington also were in the top-20 with marks of 23:24.4 and 23:56.8. Â
Avery Miller raced to a mark of 24:03.6 to round out the group for the Argos.
Â
West Florida will be back in action next Friday in Tallahassee, Florida for the FSU Invitational.  The meet begins at 8:15 AM ET/7:15 AM CT.
