PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UWF Women's Cross Country Team will head east to Tallahassee for the FSU Cross Country Invitational on Friday morning.
West Florida will race in the 5K which is expected to begin at 8:15 AM ET, approximately 35 minutes after the men's 8K.
32 other teams from across the South Region will be in attendance, including Division II schools in Valdosta State, Tampa, Palm Beach Atlantic, Nova Southeastern, Embry-Riddle, Barry and Auburn Montgomery.
"The team is extremely excited about FSU", UWF Head Coach
Caleb Carmichael stated. "It's our first true test of the year against several opponents. We will find out a lot about ourselves and our competition after this meet."
UWF is coming off a strong showing last week in the Argonaut Invitational, as the Argos secured the top spot in the race, their first team title in over two years.
Sophomore
Chloe Rook won the individual title with a time of 19:19.2, becoming the only competitor to finish the meet in under 20 minutes. She also was named the Gulf South Conference runner of the week after her performance.
West Florida showed off their depth in last week's meet, with
Ava Baldauf,
Julia Alvarez Drago and
Skylar Grant, finishing two through four as all three competitors completed the race in under 21 minutes.
In total, seven runners for UWF finished inside the top-20 as newcomer
Ambrea Hobbs, along with
Tatum Salter and
Kristen Bouington, completed the meet in under 24 minutes.
Argos In The Rankings
West Florida was slotted into the 10
th position in the latest USTFCCA South Region Poll. It is the third straight week that the Argos have claimed in the spot in the rankings. Lee, Tampa and Mississippi College maintained their place in the top three spots, while Florida Southern and Palm Beach Atlantic rounded out the top five.
