UWF Back in Pensacola for Two Nonconference Matches

Argos Coming off Four-Game Winning Streak and First Consecutive GSC Wins

PENSACOLA, Fla. - UWF men's tennis (6-4, 3-1 GSC) returns home to the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex this week as it steps out of conference play. The Argos are up to No. 9 in the country, moving up a spot from last week after winning back-to-back conference matchups for the first time this season, and are currently on a four-game winning streak.

At 1 pm on Saturday, March 16, the Argos welcome to town Xavier (La.) (6-6) of the NAIA's Red River Athletic Conference. The Gold Rush is coached by Alan Green, the most successful coach in XULA history, who is now in his 21st season coaching the tennis programs at the New Orleans university. UWF has won every meeting with the Gold Rush, whom it has played eight times since 2014, all in Pensacola. The closest result after a 6-3 win to begin the series was a 5-2 win in 2021. The teams have played in the two seasons since then, both ending in 6-1 Argo wins.

After a few days' rest, the Argos take on Ouachita Baptist (8-2, 1-0 MIAA) at 1 pm on Wednesday, March 20. The Tigers are coached by Craig Ward, the winningest coach in OBU tennis history with over 300 wins, who is now in his 35th season in charge of the men's program in Arkadelphia, Ark. As a former GSC member itself, OBU has faced UWF 16 times throughout regular seasons and conference tournaments, as well as a meeting in the 2012 NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championships. The Argos own the series 13-3 and haven't lost to the Tigers since 2010. They have swept five of the last six meetings since the nationals matchup and have won the past two 7-0 and 6-1 in the last two seasons.
