PENSACOLA, Fla. - The University of West Florida department of Intercollegiate Athletics has announced that five individuals will be inducted to the UWF Athletics Hall of Fame during the induction ceremony on Nov. 14.
Three former student-athletes will be inducted in the 2025 class as well as two individuals who have made significant impacts for UWF Athletics.
The three student-athletes include Peggy de Villiers from the women's swim and dive team as well as Elin Olsson and Lauren Lamm from the women's golf team.
Joining them in the incoming Hall of Fame class is also Dr. Martha Saunders and Darrell Gooden.
The induction ceremony is planned for Nov. 14 at The Darrell Gooden Center, Building 234 11000 University Pkwy, Pensacola FL. 32514. The event will begin at 4 p.m.
Below are brief bios of the inductees:
Peggy de Villiers - Women's Swimming and Diving (2013-2016)
Peggy de Villiers was a member of the women's swimming and diving team from 2013 to 2016. The Somerset West, South Africa native was one of the best short distance swimmers in program history.
De Villiers built an impressive list of accolades during her time at UWF. She was a CSCAA First Team All-American, honorable mention and Scholar All-American. De Villiers is No. 2 in program history with 15 CSCAA All-American honors. She is No. 5 in team history in NSISC individual titles (5), a three-time All-NSISC selection and the 2016 NSISC Champion Swimmer of the Year.
De Villiers holds top-five program records in the 50y, 100y and 200y freestyle and the 100y fly.
Elin Olsson - Women's Golf (2012-2016)
Elin Olsson was a member of the women's golf team at UWF between 2012 and 2016. Olsson, from Mantorp, Sweden was a GSC Player of the Year and First Team All-American.
In 2014, Olsson was named to the WGCA First Team All-America team and she followed up in 2015 with a WGCA All-American honorable mention. Olsson accumulated many Gulf South Conference awards including Player of the Year in 2014 and Freshman of the Year in 2013. She was a three-time first team All-GSC and also earned a second team honor. Olsson made the GSC All-Tournament team twice and was the GSC Individual Medalist in 2014.
She also excelled in the classroom and was a GSC All-Academic member for all four years.
Lauren Lamm - Women's Golf (2014-2017)
Lauren Lamm transferred to UWF from Daytona State after her freshman year. The Punta Gorda, Fla. native played for the Argos between 2014 and 2017. She became an All-American golfer and a top golfer in the GSC.
Lamm secured WGCA All-America honors in 2016 as honorable mention and in 2017 on the second team. In the conference Lamm was a three-time All-GSC selection, receiving first team honors in 2015, 2016 and 2017. She also was named to the GSC All-Tournament team in two different seasons and was a GSC All-Academic Team honoree.
Dr. Martha Saunders- Special Achievement
Dr. Martha Saunders has spent more than 30 years in higher education, serving as President of UWF from 2016 to 2025. Under her leadership as president, the University of West Florida transformed into a first-choice institution. Dr. Saunders also was an unwavering supporter and catalyst for the growth of UWF athletics.
During her time as president, Dr. Saunders was a part of three national championship teams, including men's tennis in 2017, football in 2019 and men's golf in 2025. There were 45 Gulf South Conference titles and three GSC All Sport Trophies captured during her tenure leading the university.
Dr. Saunders helped bring the football team's home games to the UWF campus after playing games at Blue Wahoos Stadium. She also led the charge on the building and opening of the Darrell Gooden Center and Sandy Sansing Sports Medicine Center.
In addition to her roles within UWF athletics, Dr. Saunders also served as the Vice Chair of the Executive committee for the GSC.
Darrell Gooden- Special Achievement
Darrell Gooden joined the effort to help start a football program in 2016 and became a Platinum UWF Football Founder. His lead gift helped build the Darrell Gooden Center that included a new locker room for football and a sports performance center for all student-athletes.
He also created an endowed scholarship to support UWF Football student-athletes. Darrell then helped lead the fundraising for an addition to the Darrell Gooden Center that added the new Sandy Sansing Sports Medicine Center and new football coaches suite.
Darrell's most recent gift commitment spearheaded the idea of building a new football stadium on UWF's campus. His commitment of more than $10 million was the lead gift in a campaign to build a brand new state-of-the-art stadium and multiuse venue that will be the premier sporting venue in northwest Florida.
Darrell, and his wife Debbie, can be seen attending many UWF athletic events including many home and away football games.
