GAINESVILLE, Ga. –
Cooper Tendick led the UWF men's golf team in its first tournament of the new season with a third-place finish at the UNG Mizuno Intercollegiate that was held on Chattahoochee Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday.
The Argos finished eighth overall in a field of 15 teams with a team score of 875. Tendick was six-under par (210) over 54 holes. The senior shot even in the first round followed by two below par rounds of -4 and -2. He was one shot off the lead.
As a team, UWF got off to a slow start, posting a +12 in the opening round on Monday but the Argos rebounded in the second round with a five-under (283). In the second round, none of the scoring players were over par. Tendick was four under,
Per Ekelund was one under while
TJ Thompson and
Max Page finished even par.
In the third round West Florida went four-over par to finish in eighth place at +11.
Tendick had 13 birdies in the tournament which was tied for third most.
The Argos will be at nearby Raven Golf Club in Miramar Beach, Fla. next week for the three-day Sandestin Collegiate. UWF will be the only NCAA Division II team in the field with all other teams competing as Division I. The event is being hosted by Texas State.
