SAINT LEO, Fla. — The University of West Florida (11-1) secured a 5-2 victory over Saint Leo University (7-2) on Saturday at the Saint Leo Tennis Center. The Argonauts clinched the match by winning two of the three doubles flights and four of the six singles matches.
West Florida secured the doubles point with victories on courts three and one. Goncaldo Quintela and
Rafael Sabio dominated at No. 3 doubles, defeating Eduardo Cohen and Shay Sarfati 6-1. The No. 1 doubles team of #2
Diego Duran and
Sebastian Rondon clinched the point with a 6-4 win over #8 Kodai Kato and Jose David Segovia. The match at No. 2 doubles was left unfinished, with
Mark Neyelov and
Samuel Vidales leading 4-3 against Dylan Andrianaly and Filippo Caporali.
In singles, West Florida extended its lead with a win at No. 6 singles, where Quintela led Caporali 3-4, 9-6 before Caporali retired. Sabio quickly added another point for the Argonauts at No. 5 singles, defeating Mahit Mekala in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. Neyelov then secured the match for the Argonauts at No. 4 singles with a tight 6-2, 7-6(9) victory over Kato.
Saint Leo responded with a win at No. 2 singles, as #41 Segovia edged #2 Duran in three sets, 3-6, 7-6(10), 6-3. However, #5 Rondon countered for the Argonauts at No. 1 singles, defeating #22 Andrianaly in a three-set battle, 7-6(7), 3-6, 6-2. The Lions picked up their final point at No. 3 singles, where Cohen defeated #63
Vicente Couto 7-6(7), 6-2.
