The University of West Florida baseball team places four student-athletes on the Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-South Region teams, highlighted by
Zack Stokes being named the D2CCA All-South Region Player of the Year.
Stokes and
Micky Scheetz are named to the All-South Region First Team, while
William Lybrook and
Jake Cooper earn Second Team honors.
Stokes is putting together one of the top offensive seasons in the region, leading the Argonauts with a .449 batting average, 93 hits, 73 runs, 24 doubles, 14 home runs, 44 RBI, a .768 slugging percentage and a .558 on-base percentage. The GSC and NCBWA Player of the Year has started all 57 games for UWF while also adding 10 stolen bases and a .993 fielding percentage.
Scheetz earns First Team honors after a dominant season out of the bullpen. The left-hander has appeared in 30 games, posting a 3-1 record with a 1.17 ERA and 16 saves across 46.0 innings pitched. Scheetz has struck out 45 batters while allowing just six earned runs this season. He has also broken the UWF single-season saves record and stands as one of the top closers in Division II.
Lybrook earns Second Team honors after a strong season behind the plate and in the middle of the West Florida lineup. The catcher has started 55 games, batting .374 with 64 hits, 10 doubles, two triples, five home runs and 35 RBI. Lybrook also holds a .498 on-base percentage and .544 slugging percentage while recording a .986 fielding percentage defensively.
Cooper earns Second Team recognition after making the most of his opportunities this season. The infielder has appeared in 27 games with 13 starts, hitting .304 with 14 hits, one home run, 11 RBI and a .452 on-base percentage. He has also added nine sacrifice bunts, providing production and versatility for the Argonauts.
As a team, West Florida holds a 43-14 overall record and is hitting .310 with 564 hits, 96 doubles, 36 home runs and 350 RBI. On the mound, the Argonauts carry a 3.88 team ERA with 402 strikeouts across 470.2 innings.
UWF hosts the NCAA Division II South Super Regional on Thursday, May 21 and Friday, May 22. The Argonauts face Tampa in a best-of-three series with a trip to the NCAA Division II National Championship on the line. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. for both games, with a potential deciding game scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, if necessary. Live stats will be available on GoArgos.com.
