2019 NCBWA PRESEASON MEDIA CENTRAL

PEMBROKE, N.C. – Shortstop Matthew Jones can add All-American to his growing list of preseason honors. The senior infielder from Columbus, Ga. has been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Preseason All-America Third Team.
 
A 2018 All-GSC First Team selection, Jones was also a 2018 ABCA Second Team All-South Region, D2CCA Second Team All-South Region and NCBWA Second Team All-South Region selection after finishing the season with a .351 average, eight home runs, 34 RBIs and 46 runs scored. He was named to the NCBWA All-South Region First Team Jan. 25 along with teammate Dylan Mills-Derouen.
 
Jones provided a number of highlights during the 2018 campaign, including a two-home run performance vs. then-No. 16 Southern Indiana March 6. His dramatic two-run homer in the 10th inning of that game propelled the Argos to their first win over a ranked opponent and helped the team continue what would become an 11-game win streak.
 
UWF will begin the 2019 season Feb. 1-3 vs. No. 5 Florida Southern. The Mocs are one of two South Region teams ranked in the NCBWA preseason top five. Tampa is ranked No. 2, just behind last year's national champion Augustana (S.D.).
 
The University of West Florida baseball team's 2019 schedule features a 48-game regular season slate. Conference play begins at home Feb. 16 vs. Christian Brothers.
