PENSACOLA, Fla. – Head Coach
Melissa Wolter has announced today the addition of two players to the UWF Volleyball team for the Spring of 2021. These two players include Alex Oliver and Britta Hibbs who each come to West Florida after having successful high school careers.
"I am so excited that Alex and Britta are getting a jump start on their careers here at UWF and will be enrolling this spring", Wolter explains.
Alex Oliver: Oliver joins the Argonauts as a 5-foot-10 Outside Hitter from Jasper, Alabama. Here she attends Jasper High School where she is a member of the Beta Club and the National Honor Society. Outside of school, Oliver is involved in a local youth group where she serves as a mentor to kids. In club volleyball, Oliver plays for the North Alabama Juniors.
During Oliver's high school career, Jasper High won two 5A State Championships (2018, 2019) and were 6A State Runners-Up once (2017). These marked the first two State Championships in Jasper High School volleyball history.
Individually, Oliver has brought in many awards during her high school career. As a senior, Oliver was named to the Under Armor High School All-American Watch List, was a member of the AHSAA North-South Volleyball team, and was selected to AL.com Super All-State First team. Additionally, she was selected as MVP of the 5A State Championship in 2019, was a two-time Max Prep Alabama Player of the Week, and was an All-Area Tournament selection all four years of her high school career.
"Alex is a gifted athlete that brings championship experience to our team," says Wolter. "Alex is a proven winner and she is always looking to improve her game. She played a big role for her high school, helping them win two State Championships. She was highly recruited and I'm thrilled she chose West Florida to further her athletic and academic career. I believe she's going to do big things here."
Britta Hibbs: Hibbs comes to West Florida as a 5-foot-7 Defensive Specialist from Luck, Wisconsin. Attending Luck High School, Hibbs was involved with the National Honor Society, Student Council, Choir, Future Farmers of America, as well as the 4-H Club. In addition to volleyball, Hibbs also competed in golf and in her senior season received all-conference honors for her play.
During her career at Luck High School, Hibbs received many accolades including being named 2
nd team all-conference in 2018 as well as an honorable mention all-conference in 2017 and 2019. Hibbs finished her career with 294 kills, 829 digs, and 821 assists in her three seasons with the Cardinals. In both her sophomore and junior seasons, Hibbs recorded over 300 digs and in her Junior season lead the team with 219 kills.
To go along with her success with the Cardinals, Hibbs also played with the Kokoro Volleyball Club in Minnesota which is just 30 minutes away from where current UWF player
Stephanie Barber played her club volleyball.
"Britta is the perfect addition to our team as part of the next generation of DS/Liberos" states Wolter. "Britta is physical, confident, and she's a winner. She came to camp and filled in as middle at one point and found a way to help her team be successful. There's nothing she wouldn't do for her team and she already bleeds green and blue. I love Britta's mentality and believe she will enhance our gym culture and challenge our current players to be their best."
