Gomez Leads UWF at Fall Regional Preview

UWF finished tenth in the first tournament of the season

DAVIE, Fla. – Solange Gomez turned in rounds of 74, 75, 74 to pace the 24th-ranked UWF women's golf team in the South Regional Preview at Grande Oaks Golf Club in the opening event of the 2021-22 season.
 
Gomez finished tied for 11th in the 63-player field at 10-over-par 223. For the junior from Quito, Ecuador, it continued her strong play from last season when she had a 74.92 stroke average and advanced to the NCAA Championships.
 
Alia Scotka was the Argonauts' second-highest finisher, turning in an 81-73-78=232 and a tie for 33rd in her first collegiate tournament. The freshman from Niceville, Florida and Gomez had four birdies each over the 54 holes to lead UWF.
 
Sophomore Peyton Pacheco tied for 44th with a 76-79-82=237 total, with her score counting towards the team total each round.
 
Sophomore Sophie Shrader was 56th at 82-82-80=244 and freshman Alegria Lopez was 61st at 80-89-85=254.
 
UWF finished tenth overall, posting a 311-309-314=967 total. No. 2 Lynn won the team title by 15 shots with an 870 score.
 
The Argos will return to play in two weeks when they travel to McCormick, South Carolina for the Savannah Lakes Invitational. Play begins on Monday, Sept. 27 at the Monticello Golf Course at Savannah Lakes Village.
