2022 UWF VOLLEYBALL SCHEDULE
Â
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UWF women's volleyball team will play 15 home matches and at least 11 against teams that won 20 contests a year ago in the 2022 schedule that was announced on Thursday.
Â
Head coach
Melissa Wolter's team will host a pair of early-season tournaments which will feature four teams that participated in the 2021 NCAA Tournament, along with a 16-match Gulf South Conference slate.
Â
"We are really excited about our 2022 fall schedule," Wolter said. "This year we will be hosting two pre-season tournaments, which will give our fans an opportunity to see a lot of great volleyball early on, in our own gym. We are also thrilled to be heading back out to the Colorado Premier where we will get to face some of the best teams in the nation.
Â
"All of this will allow us to be battle tested before we move into our tough conference schedule. We are looking forward to the pursuit of championships again this fall."
UWF will open the year at home against what is regularly the toughest first weekend tournament in the country. This year's Springhill Suites Invitational will see Central Missouri, Lees-McRae, Spring Hill and Wheeling pay a visit to the UWF Field House, August 25-27.
Â
The Argonauts will return to the Rocky Mountains after a year hiatus, and participate in the Colorado Premier Challenge. The event annually draws the top teams from across the country to battle for two days on the campuses of Regis and Metro State. This year, UWF will face Azusa Pacific and Wayne State (Nebraska) – last year's Premier runner-up – in pool play on September 2 before being re-slotted for the medal round a day later.
Â
UWF comes home for the West Florida Invitational, September 9-10. The Argos will face Lewis, UNC Pembroke and Oklahoma Baptist in their final tune-ups before GSC action starts at home against Valdosta State on September 13.
Â
Among the nine non-conference opponents already set on the schedule, four of them are first-time foes for the Argonauts in Azusa Pacific, Lees-McRae, Oklahoma Baptist and Wayne State.
Â
The Blue and Green will also face Alabama Huntsville, Auburn Montgomery, Lee, Mississippi College, Montevallo, Shorter and West Alabama at home while making road trips to UAH, AUM, Christian Brothers, MC, Montevallo, UWA, West Georgia and Union in league action.
Â
The South Region Crossover will return to the Finley Center in Hoover, Alabama, October 14-15.
Â
The GSC Championship will run the second week of November at the site of the regular-season winner. The 8-team tournament has been held at UWF the last six seasons. The Argonauts have won 12 regular-season and 10 tournament titles in 14 years
Â
The NCAA South Regional is November 17-19 and the NCAA Division II Championship is December 1-3 in Seattle, Washington as part of the 2022 Fall Festival.
Â
UWF is coming off a 2021 campaign in which they went 35-2 overall, won the GSC regular-season and tournament titles without dropping a match, and hosted the South Regional for the first time in program history. The Argos have participated in the last 15 NCAA Tournaments.
Â
A year ago UWF had five players earn All-America honors, two pick up Academic All-America and swept all five GSC Major Postseason Awards while ending the season ranked fifth in the country.
