FLORENCE, ALA. – It was a successful first race of 2024 for UWF Women's Cross Country, as the Argos placed third out of nine teams at the University of North Alabama Invitational Saturday in Florence, AL.
West Florida was the top division II team of the meet, coming in just behind DI programs Jacksonville State and North Alabama. The Argos beat out fellow GSC team Union University in the overall team results, with an average team time of 19:16. The meet also featured Alabama A&M, Calhoun Community College, Northeast Mississippi, Northwest Shoals Community College, and Lane College.
Junior
Chloe Rook placed fourth out of the 72 runners at the meet with a 18:37.60 time in the 5K.
Four Argos set personal records in the 5K race, including freshman
Sydney Orth who recorded a 19:16.03 time and came in 13
th overall. Additionally,
Sierra Howard,
Gwendelyn Shamel, and
Kristen Bouington ran personal record times of 19:28.14, 19:34.64, and 20:40.81 respectively in the meet.
Outside of Rook, the Argos had a small gap between their second and fifth place runners, with just 18 seconds separating Orth and Shamel. Orth placed 13
th, Baldauf placed, 16
th, Howard placed 17
th, and Shamel placed 21
st of the 72 runners overall.

Skylar Grant ran a time of 20:03.50,
Julia Alvarez Drago ran a 20:06.93, Bouington ran a 20:04.81,
Tatum Salter ran a 21:50.07,
Ambrea Hobbs ran a 21:57.68, and
Jesenia Ramirez ran a 23:07.63.
UWF women's cross country is back in action once again on Friday, Sep. 20 as they host the Argonaut Invitational at the UWF Cross Country Course.
