INDIANAPOLIS, IN. – UWF Softball lands at No. 8 in the most recent DII South Region rankings, the NCAA announced Wednesday.
Three automatic bids are awarded to the conference champions of the south region (GSC, SSC, SIAC) leaving five at-large bids. Their upcoming series against Valdosta State and matchups in the GSC Tournament will determine where they land when the NCAA DII Softball Selection show airs on Monday, May 9 at 9:00 AM CT. There will be one more ranking on Wednesday, April 30 before conference championships begin.
The Argos are 31-14 and 20-10 in the Gulf South Conference. Last season, the Argos were one of the first teams out of the NCAA South Regional rankings after going 36-16 and being eliminated after going 1-2 in the GSC Tournament. UWF last attended a regional in May of 2021 at Valdosta State.
UWF is one of four GSC teams represented in the rankings, along with Auburn Montgomery, Mississippi College, and West Alabama. The South Region Top 10 is shown below:
