BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Freshman women's cross country runner
Elyse Carmichael is bringing home the first Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week award of 2025, the conference announced Wednesday morning.
Carmichael placed fifth overall out of 112 competitors and was the top freshman finisher this past weekend at the University of North Alabama Invitational. In her first collegiate race, she finished with an 18:36.96 in the women's 5K.
She is the first UWF women's cross country athlete to win the weekly award since current junior
Olivia Noack won it in September of 2023.
Carmichael and the Argos host the 6
th annual Argonaut invitational this Friday morning beginning at 7:30 AM CT.
