PENSACOLA, Fla. – For the second straight week, UWF women's cross country finished their meet with the top team score.
The Argos came away with a perfect team score on their home course at the Argonaut Invitational in the women's 5K. They faced competition from Pensacola State College, Gulf Coast State College, and Baptist University of Florida.
"We went into the race thinking about preparation for the rest of the season. There were things we wanted to work on, but most of all, we were striving for a perfect score on both sides. By that measure, we were very successful." Head coach
Caleb Carmichael said.
Freshman
Elyse Carmichael ran a 19:33.30 in the women's 5K to finish first overall in her first collegiate race on the UWF cross country course.
Senior
Chloe Rook placed second with a 19:36.8 time, shaving about 20 seconds from her 2024 Argonaut Invitational time.
Sophomore
Sydney Orth placed third, running a 20:12.50 time and cutting 36 seconds off her freshman time during the Argonaut Invitational.
Madison Sims placed fourth in her first collegiate race as an Argo, running a 20:36.80 time. Rounding out the top five and securing the perfect score was
Sierra Howard, finishing with a 20:48.00 time and running 42 seconds faster than in 2024.
Gwen Shamel placed seventh with a 21:47.40 finish, followed by
Kristen Bouington at eighth with a 22:00.40 time.
Olivia Noack and
Ambrea Hobbs finished 10
th and 14
th respectively with times of 22:40.70 and 23:29.20.
The Argos now turn their attention to the Firehawk Invitational in Danville, AL next Saturday Sep. 20 hosted by Tennessee Southern.
