DESTIN, Fla. – The Argos stayed close to home for their second tournament of the fall season, playing in the Sandestin Collegiate Classic hosted by Texas State University at Sandestin Resort & Club. UWF finished in fourth place among the all NCAA Division I event. The Argos shot 839 (-13) as a team.
Heading into the final day of competition the Argos sat in first place at 16-under par with Middle Tennessee trailing by two strokes. UWF dropped back in the final day after shooting +3 as a team.
TJ Thompson led the way for the Argos finishing tied for 12th place overall at five under par. Thompson led the tournament following Monday's first round. The junior recorded a 65 (-6) for the first 18 holes which is his career-best with West Florida. Thompson posted a bogey-free round with three birdies on the front nine and three on the back. Thompson finished the tournament with even par in round two and one over in the third round.
Max Page gave a huge boost for the Argos, especially in the second round with a 66 (-5). The senior had six birdies in the round. Page finished the tournament tied for 19th overall at -3. Page shot 71-66-73 in his best outing as an Argo.
Freshman
Ethan Tak also produced a great second round with a four under par 67. Tak shot 71-67-73. He was 22nd overall.
UWF led the tournament with two eagles and was the second-best team in par 3's with an average score of 3.01.
Next up for the Argos is the Copperhead Championship on Oct. 13 and 14. The tournament will take place in Palm Harbor, Fla. at Innisbrook Resort.
