Carmichael’s Record Earns Her Second GSC Freshman of the Week Honor

Ran 22:03 to set program record in Women’s 6K at Firehawk invitational Saturday.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the second time in two weeks, UWF women's cross country's Elyse Carmichael is the Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week.

The Pensacola native set a new program record with a 22:03 in the women's 6K in just her third race ever as an Argo. She bested the previous time of 22:10 set by Ava Baldauf in 2023.

She placed second overall and was just three seconds behind the top finisher as she led UWF to a 2nd overall team finish.

Carmichael won her first Freshman of the Week honor back on Sep. 10 after placing fifth at the UNA Invitational. It is the third straight meet that Carmichael has placed inside the top five as a finisher.
