Women’s XC Places 14th at Florida State Invitational, Chappell Clocks Top-6 Program Time

Argos place ahead of multiple DI teams and regionally ranked DII teams

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – UWF Women's Cross Country had yet another strong team showing, this time against a field of high competition in the women's 6K at the FSU XC Invitational.

The field featured multiple top D1 teams, including Georgia, LSU, Miami, Samford, South Florida and the hosting Florida State Seminoles.  The Argos finished 14th out of the 39 teams and finished as the third-highest DII team after regionally ranked Tampa and Nova Southeastern.

The Argos finished ahead of DI teams in Bethune-Cookman, South Florida, Jacksonville, Stetson, and Alabama State. They also placed ahead of regionally ranked Flagler, and other south region teams in Auburn Montgomery, Valdosta State, and Barry.

"We had a couple goals for this one. Be competitive with the other D2 schools and continue to run in tight groups. Beating Flagler, was great but we lost to couple regional opponents in Tampa and Nova. We will hopefully learn from this one and make up the gap at conference and regionals." head coach Caleb Carmichael said.

Jessica Chappell was the top finisher for the Argos for the second time this season, placing 50th out of 362 runners with a time of 22:40.9 and running the sixth fastest 6K time in program history.

Elyse Carmichael followed up her impressive program record set last weekend with the 9th fastest time in program history, placing 60thon a 22:55.5 time. The 2025 UWF women's cross country team now has current players with five of the top 10 fastest times in program history.

Chloe Rook placed 114th with a 23:29.4 time. Madison Sims and Sydney Orth finished 145 and 146 respectively with times of 24:10.4 and 24:12.0.

Sierra Howard and Gwen Shamel finished in a close grouping as well, with Howard finishing 173rd on a 24:41.4 time and Gwen Shamel finishing 177 on a 24:43.5 time.
