Maddie Mire and
Reece Wright earned Gulf South Conference Defensive and Freshman Player of the Week honors, respectively, for the week of September 30, the league office announced Tuesday. The recognition marks the third GSC weekly award for Mire and the first for Wright in 2025.
Mire totaled 61 digs, averaging 6.10 per set, across three matches, beginning the week with a season-high 29 digs in a four-set win at Valdosta State. She capped the week with 19 digs at Union and 13 digs at Christian Brothers and also produced seven assists and six aces. This marks Mire's third GSC Defensive Player of the Week award of the season.
Wright had 30 kills on 66 swings, posting a .333 hit percentage to help the Argonauts start 3-0 in GSC play. She tallied three consecutive 10-kill performances while on the road at Valdosta State, Union and Christian Brothers, hitting .304 at VSU, .240 at Union and .500 at CBU. Wright also contributed with three digs and three blocks in the week to earn her first career GSC weekly award.
