Box Score PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida men's tennis team opened the season with a victory over Xavier at Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex on Sunday afternoon. The Argos opened the match with a strong showing in doubles and carried the momentum through singles play to secure the 7-0 victory.
The Argonauts claimed the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. Sebastian Rondon and Diego Duran set the tone with a strong 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles, while Mark Neyelov and Rafael Sabio followed with a matching 6-2 win on court two to clinch the point. UWF's pairing of Vincente Couto and Goncalo Quintelo dropped a narrow decision at No. 3.
West Florida was dominant in singles, sweeping all six matches to seal the shutout. Rondon earned a win in straight sets at the top spot, defeating Nereo Suarez 7-5, 6-3, while Duran cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 victory on court two. Sabio added a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3, and Neyelov followed with a 6-3, 6-2 decision at No. 4.
Couto and Quintela rounded out singles play with decisive performances on the bottom courts, as Couto posted a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 5 and Quintela closed the match with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 6.
The Argos will be back in action on Friday, February 13, in Indianapolis, Indiana in the ITA Men's National Team Indoors Championship. Opponents are TBA.
