VALDOSTA, Ga. –
Cooper Tendick tied his single round best score on Friday during the second round of the NCAA DII South/Southeast Regional, carding a 65 (-7) to lead the Argos into a tie for first place. Tendick's seven under also set a new tournament record for Valdosta Country Club.
The senior is now 12 under for the tournament and leads the individual standings by one stroke over fellow Gulf South Conference golfer Drew Zielinski who also shot a record-breaking -7 in the second round today. Tendick put together a picture-perfect round without a bogey. He posted birdies on holes 1, 3, 5, 10, 11, 13 and 14.
The Argos, who are currently ranked No. 1 in all the national polls moved up one position from round one to a first-place tie with Nova Southeastern at 561 (-15). The top three finishing teams will earn an automatic qualification to the NCAA DII National Championships which will be held at Boulder Creek Golf Club outside of Las Vegas beginning on May 18.
In addition to Tendick, two other Argos scored under par for the second round.
Eddie Lee was one under and is currently -1 for the tournament.
Per Ekelund rebounded from a slow opening round with a 71 (-1) and is now three over for the tournament.
TJ Thompson shot 73 for the day (+1) and is one-under in total and
Max Page shot 76 (+4) and is four over currently.
The final round will have a shotgun start at 9 a.m. on Saturday as rain is expected. UWF is searching for its seventh NCAA regional championship and 18th trip to the national championship.
