UWF Volleyball has Left Their Mark in the Record Books this 2019 Season

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The UWF Volleyball Team has wrapped up their 2019 season achieving many goals and earning awards along the way. The Argos season wrapped up at the NCAA Regionals where UWF dropped a hard-fought match to Barry, 3-1, despite 13 kills and three blocks from Veresia Yon and 10 kills from Jordyn Poppen in that match in the first round of the NCAA Tournament South Regionals. 

UWF finished the season with a 26-9 overall record and an undefeated GSC regular season 16-0. The Argos were the 2019 GSC Regular Season Champions and won the 2019 GSC Championship that gave them an automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA Tournament.

To date, the UWF Volleyball Team has earned 12 GSC Regular Season titles in 13 years, their 9th GSC Conference Championship, 69 All-Conference selections, 28 AVCA All-South Region players, and 19 AVCA All-Americans.

As a team, the Argos made the UWF Volleyball Record Book in several areas and broke one team record. In Team Season Records, this seasons team is tied for 3rd in total games played with 134, made the top 10 in kills with 1,783, 3rd in total attacks with 5,026, 2nd in digs with 2,421, made the top 10 in assists with 1,655, and broke the team record in blocking with 308 total blocks in the 2019 season. 

There were some players this season who had their own personal achievements on top of the team's accomplishments.

Ebony Powers, West Florida, OH, Sr.
Stats: 2.13 K/S, .223 Hitting %, 1.97 D/S

This season, Powers earned a spot on the 2019 All-GSC Second Team, and earned a position on the All-GSC Tournament Team. This being the only season that Powers participated in, she still was able to produce amazing numbers and play a full year. Powers raked up 284 points for the Argos with 241 kills, 223 digs, and 65 blocks. 

Ashton Marshall, West Florida, L, Jr.
Stats: 4.54 D/S, 613 Digs

This season, Marshall found her way into the record books and won awards. Marshall earned a position on the GSC All-Tournament Team and earned GSC Defensive Player of the Week for the week on Nov. 19. Marshall every set this season for the Argos and made the UWF Record Books. Marshall is now 2nd in Individual Single Season Digs with 613 digs and 2nd in Individual Match Highs in Digs with 36 digs against West Georgia.

Jordyn Poppen, West Florida, OH, Sr.
Stats: 3.39 K/S, .246 Hitting %, 3.38 D/S

This season, Poppen has earned 2019 AVCA All-Region team selection, D2CCA All-South Region First Team selection, for the first time in UWF history, D2CCA All-South Region Player of the Year, First Team All-GSC and GSC Player of the Year. She has been GSC Offensive Player of the Week, earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team at Pacer Invitational, Springhill Suites Invitational and was on the All-Tournament Team for the 2019 GSC Tournament along with being the tournament's MVP. Poppen has earned 22 double-doubles this season. 

Veresia Yon, West Florida, MB, RS-Fr.
Stats: 2.83 K/S, .337 Hitting %, 1.11 B/S, 142 TB

This season, Yon has earned 2019 AVCA All-Region team selection, D2CCA All-South Region First Team selection, All-GSC First Team, and has won GSC Freshman of the Week three times this season. Yon has broken the UWF school record for blocks in a single season with 142 blocks. There have been 11 matches in the season where Yon hit above .400 already placing herself in the UWF Record books yet again as a Freshman.
