The 1975 Men’s Basketball team saw tremendous change in the UWF Athletic program. After a tough regular season, which ended 17-11, they traveled to West Palm Beach for the District 25 Tournament where they defeated their opponents in a 65-58 victory. In their second game against North Georgia College, the Argonauts defeated them 60-57, paving the way for the NAIA National Tournament in Kansas City, Missouri among 32 national teams. The Argos were eliminated from the NAIA nationals by Texas Southern, ending their season with a 19-12 record. After their season, budget constraints took effect across the university, and the team deplaned from their national tournament to find that the men’s basketball program would be the last sport to be cut and funding was transferred to the club sports, intramurals and student recreation. In the spring of 1979, the university decided to revive Intercollegiate Athletics, adding tennis, softball, baseball and men’s soccer to varsity sports status. The 1975 men’s basketball team included outstanding athletes who fiercely competed to the point of placing West Florida in an early NAIA National Tournament. In their team season, they have the Most Wins (19), Highest Scoring Defense (68.2), Highest Points (2,238), and Most Points Allowed (129) for their all-time records.
