UWF HALL OF FAME - CLASS OF 2010-11

Pat Cannon was a key ingredient for the UWF men’s soccer team and its early success in10331 the Gulf South Conference. The center midfielder was a member of the first two GSC championship teams at UWF in 1998 and 2001. He was a three-time All-GSC first team selection, one of just 10 players in league history to earn that honor, and in the summer of 2010 he was named to the GSC All-Time Team.

Cannon was also a two-time All-South Region selection, highlighted by a first team nod as a senior in 2001. In his senior season, he was also the Most Outstanding Player at the GSC Tournament, leading the Argos to their second conference title.

The midfielder scored 19 goals with 25 assists and 63 points in his four years, and he still stands as the program’s all-time leader in assists. Cannon also ranks second in the GSC and holds the UWF record for assists in a game with four against Ouachita Baptist in 2000.

Cannon currently works for Environmental Resource Solutions, Inc. as an environmental scientist. He is also employed as the U-18 coach and director of coaching for the First Coast Soccer Association. Pat is married to Jenny Roberts Cannon, who played for the UWF women’s soccer team in 2001 and 2002.

Hall of Fame Questionnaire

1. What was your most memorable moment in UWF athletics?
It’s really hard to point out one memorable moment from the four great years I had at UWF. If I had to pick one moment it would have to be winning the conference tournament as well as the most valuable player award for the GSC tournament my senior year. It was a great feeling knowing that all my hard work up to that moment had paid off for me and also my team.

2. Being a former student-athlete, how has it helped you in your life after college?
Participating in college sports has had a positive impact on me in my post college career. I think it has helped me tremendously in dealing with certain situations where you are under pressure in the job world. Learning to operate under pressure is a great tool to have before joining your career.

3. Are you still involved with your sport?  If so, in what capacity?
I am still heavily involved in soccer. I have been coaching and playing since I left UWF in 2002. This past year, I was promoted to Director of Coaching for First Coast Soccer Association in Jacksonville, Florida. I also coach the Under 18 team at First Coast. It’s a great feeling to be able to give back to the game that has given me so much in my life.
