John Grant played men’s golf at West Florida from 1984 to 1988 and proved to be an exceptional competitor on the golf course. The Swedish sensation brought a seasoned competitive force that he learned from his professional golfing father and his talents brought the newly developed Men’s Golf Program both national and international recognition. Grant received the UWF Athlete of the Year award in 1989 and also qualified for NAIA All-American status for four years. In 1989 and 1990, he finished second in the medalist round and led his team to a fourth-place finish. He also won the NAIA Long Drive contest with a drive of 321 yards and six inches. He also captured the title at the Tapper Invitational that year and defeated Florida State at the Jerry Pate Invitational. In 1988, he ranked in the Top 20 at the South Alabama Invitational and in 1990 he graduated with a degree in marketing and moved back to Sweden.
