Doug Linville was one of the original and most highly decorated players on the initial UWF team in 1967-68. He helped lead the Argonauts to an unforgettable season, posting a 19-3 record as a junior and an 18-8 record his senior season.

Linville set the first UWF basketball records, leading UWF in 11 scoring and rebounding categories, noted for most points scored (482/21.9 average) and most rebounds (262/11.9 average). He was named Most Valuable Player with Bob Stinnett and ranked #1 in All-Time Top 15. He still ranks as the third all-time leading scorer, despite playing only two years. His career scoring average of 20.7 points per game may never be equaled.

The opponents UWF beat during his playing career were NCAA Division I foes South Alabama, Georgia State and Southern Mississippi, and he helped lead his early team to a national championship.
