James Hazouri was a standout player on the West Florida men’s basketball team from 1974 to 1976. He was a leading scorer on an exceptional team, scoring 14 points per game in his senior season. He earned All-District 25 honors and contributed to claiming the district championship title. He led the 19-10 Argonauts to the NAIA National Championship Tournament in Kansas City, where they came home to find that the varsity athletic program had been disbanded. After graduating, Hazouri coached at Jacksonville’s Stillwell Junior High school from 1976-1980 and then at Sandlewood High School from 1980 to 1987. Hazouri played basketball at UWF in a crucial time to see the program undergo the most drastic and historic changes, and his outstanding athletic status gained him recognition for years to come.
