UWF HALL OF FAME - CLASS OF 2009-10
In the UWF Athletic Department’s first year in 1967, Marvin Beck was named the men’s basketball team’s first head coach. The former Pensacola High School coach led the Argonauts for nine seasons and compiled a record of 126-105. UWF posted a record of 19-3 (.864) in its inaugural season, still the highest winning percentage in program history. In 1975-76, Beck led West Florida to its first appearance in the NAIA National Tournament and an NAIA District Championship. Following that season the UWF basketball program, along with all other intercollegiate sports, were dropped due to budget constraints.
Following his coaching career, Beck served as an elected official as County Commissioner for seven years from 1976-83. Marvin is a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, and he enjoys golfing, hunting, fishing, traveling, and spending time with his family.
Marvin is married to Laura Stabler Beck and has five children: Marvin Beck Jr. with his wife Patty, Teri Robinson with her husband John, Kevin Beck with his wife Pam, Sean Geraghty with his wife Marisha, and Brian Geraghty with his wife Renee. He also has 12 grandchildren, including two sets of twins: Jena Robinson, Aubree Robinson, Tucker Robinson, Shea Geraghty, Bree and Bryce Geraghty, Eamon Geraghty, Ciaran Geraghty, Fiona and Maura Geraghty, Michael Beck, and Mishell Beck.

1. What was your most memorable moment in UWF Athletics?
- First year team had 19 wins and 3 losses
- NAIA District Championship in 1976
- In 1973 coached USA Team (players from PHS and UWF) in South African Games in Pretoria, South Africa and won gold medal
2. How has being involved in collegiate athletics helped you in your life after coaching?
The leadership skills were extremely beneficial after becoming an elected official (County Commissioner 1976-1983).
3. Are you still involved with your sport? If so, in what capacity?
No, but I enjoy being a spectator, especially since my former player Bob Stinnett is now Head Coach at UWF.
