David Freiman competed as a success to the men’s tennis program in 1982-1983, securing his outstanding abilities in both the singles and doubles categories. He posted a 20-9 singles record and a 22-5 doubles record, becoming acknowledged for his running forehand and backhand and being quick on the courts. In 1981, Freiman was awarded Athlete of the Month and ranked #2 in singles and #1 in doubles on the team.

By 1982, he received the Academic All-America Award and became recognized for winning the Pensacola Classic (USTA). He reached the semi-finals and finals in Singles and Doubles in eight USTA and non-sanctioned tournaments that year. By 1983, he was nominated for NAIA Academic All-American District 27 and ranked #26 in NAIA National Rankings. His posted a season and district singles record of 27-11 and a doubles record of 30-7 after partnering with Norman LeBeau.

Freiman’s accomplishments in doubles tennis with LeBeau brought him even further recognition, as they won their first doubles match in 1982, establishing the first UWF men’s tennis victory over Santa Fe Community College. The pair was ranked number one doubles duo on the team and won 48 matches together (75 percent of all matches). They then won the NAIA National Championships in Kansas City, MO and earned NAIA Academic All-American honors in both 1982 and 1983.
